I am attempting to write a script to pull a list of public events from Salsa. The script I wrote wasn't working, so I decided to try simply using the example script found here http://salsalabs.com/o/8001/p/salsa/website/public2/commons/dev/docs/api/cookbook/php.sjs. I modified only the URL, Email, and Password variables. The URL I set to https://hq-org2.democracyinaction.org/.

When I run this I get a PHP error saying an invalid argument was supplied when it hits the foreach loop at the end. This is because there was no response from my request. I haven't been able to figure out if my authentication request is even working as I'm getting no response from that either. My first question is if the URL I'm using is the correct one. The documentation makes it pretty clear that I need to use the right one, but I'm still a little unsure if I picked the right one. (I got it from the subdomain and domain when logged into Salsa)

My second question is: If I have the URL correct, what is the problem with the script that's keeping me from receiving any response or authenticating?

Am I correct that by simply adding their name to a petition, a person is added to the supporter list?

The way my client uses their supporter list, they would then be sending that person emails (i.e., without opt-in) because they frequently use the Target Entire List option.

I'm curious how people handle this and whether there is an accepted Best Practice. Which is preferable ...

(1) Add text to the petition page that advises the person they will begin receiving emails and can unsubscribe at any time

(2) Create an overall "Mailing List" group and provide a checkbox on the petition to allow folks to deliberately sign up, and retrain users so that emails are *never* sent to the entire list?

(3) something else I'm not contemplating

If #2 is the best way to go, how does one trigger the sign-up auto-response from a petition page? In the follow-up tab for the action, I only see a way to send one email to everyone who signs the petition. I do not see a way to create a conditional autoresponse for folks who are also signing up to receive emails. I ran a test where I signed the petition (and checked a box to join a Mailing List group) and received only the auto-response for signing the petition but not the usual auto-response that is set up for new sign-ups. Nor did the triggered individual email go out that is set up for new sign-ups.

I guess the crux of this question is, how to handle getting new supporters properly subscribed, complete with autoresponse and notification, when the come into the list via a petition?

I'm trying to send an email blast to residents of certain congressional districts. When I select 'Legislative District > Federal House' it only shows about 10 districts to choose from. How do I add/edit/manage this? There should be hundreds of districts but only a random few are showing.

What is best practices for time of day to send email blasts? I receive many emails first thing in the morning however, some are sent later in the afternoon. What has been your experience with sending email blasts?

I am writing because I would like to make a query of everyone in my database except those that I have marked in a specific group and those people that have asked to unsubscribe. How do I do this? I only see an option for creating a query based on people in groups, or with tags etc. for some of our constituents I only have their email address entered, and I would like them to be a part of this query. I am missing emails in blasts. When I query my database (24,500) for members (WITH EMAIL NOT EMPTY) I get 15,000. When I send an email to ALL MEMBERS I only send 12,000. Where can I look for the missing emails? Does this represent email fields that have bad or invalid emails?

Could someone point me into the right direction?

I have a storefront set up and want to append the url with different tracking codes for different organizations that will be referring people to the store so that we can see where each is coming from.

Example:

If someone referred by "Organization A" purchases an item; or if someone referred by "Organizations B" purchases an item.

I included "&tag=org1" at the end of the URL for the store item and tested this out, but didn't see this tag show up in the "tracking code" field. How do I go about running reports based on this correctly?

Can you explain to me why the Facebook share button on this page doesn't provide a picture, title or description? I tried following documentation on http://www.salsacommons.org/o/8001/p/salsa/web/forum/public/topic?topic_KEY=1304

But I just can't seem to get it to work on a content page.

Is there a way to maintain line breaks in a MEDIUMTEXT custom field? We want to use the variable to email a series of items to our supporters (each supporter gets a slightly different list). When we use the [[MEDIUMTEXT1] script, it translates the following:

Item 1
Item 2
Item 3

into this:

Item 1 Item 2 Item 3

Separating items by commas is always an option, but its much less attractive. Thanks.
