It's the "Weekly Salsa Highlight," your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program. As always, you can find plenty more news, updates, and conversation throughout the week on SalsaCommons.org.

As you might have already noticed, we've made a few tweaks this week to streamline your Donations page setup process.

  • We've kept all the same fields and setup choices you're used to, but grouped them into compact tabs of related options.
  • We've added more explanatory tooltip text to help you find your way about quickly.
  • And we've rolled in enhancements you've already seen elsewhere, such as the ability to build auto-responses on the fly in the page workflow itself.

I hope these changes will help your team make brilliant donation pages in a flash, and let new Salsa users acclimate in the blink of an eye. Give it a try, and let us know what you think!

P.S. -- If you're in D.C., remember to come by this Thursday, Feb. 4 for our in-person training and happy hour!

Salsa Commons login panel

Welcome to the 'Weekly Salsa Highlight', your quick hit on what's new in Salsa to help get the most out of your online program.

You can always get news, updates, and conversation on Salsa Commons. In fact, this week, Salsa Commons itself is the weekly highlight!

There's a new, streamlined look at SalsaCommons.org, and the new login features allowing you to sign into the site with Facebook, OpenID, Google, Yahoo!, or AOL.

Just click the "login" link in the upper left, sign in with your Facebook or other ID, and post or comment freely. (Naturally, you can keep using your regular Salsa ID, too.)

We'll be rolling this great new feature out to all our user organizations for use with their own supporters in the coming weeks. But now's your chance to get a sneak preview of it by trying it out on Salsa Commons!

The rest of the Salsa Commons homepage has a crisp new look and feel, too, with:

  • A rotating banner of current highlights
  • Quick documentation links in the left column
  • Email signup in the upper left-hand corner to receive one or all of our regular Salsa emails

We hope you'll enjoy the ease of having the most popular current features right at your fingertips every time you visit, and the convenience of participating in the Salsa community with the same identity management tools you're already using elsewhere. Come on by and check out the changes!

Salsa Weekly Highlight: Add event autoresponses on the go

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every Wednesday!)

You can always get news, updates, and conversation on Salsa Commons. If you were there this week, you saw one of our users, Charlie Albanetti, flat-out scoop the weekly highlight with this post noticing how it's now possible to build events Triggers/Autoresponses in-line directly in the events setup workflow.

The "Add a new response" button instantly creates a brand-new event autoresponse. You can proceed to edit it directly without leaving the tab.

Full instructions and screenshots on using this great new feature are available in the events documentation.

Got your standard replies all set up? They're all there, too. Add an existing response lets you browse among Autoresponses you have already configured, just like always.

Hopefully that will speed up the process of building event autoresponses. Go ahead and chime in on the thread if you have some ideas for making it even better! And look for this same functionality elsewhere in the Salsa toolset in the near future.

Salsa Weekly Highlight: New 'Actions' package is ready!

by Leslie Hall

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every Wednesday!)

The new Salsa Actions package is ready!

We're highly recommending you install it now. (Note: you must be a Super Admin to install packages. Ask your organization's Super Admin to make this change if you can't see the "account" tab on the right side of Salsa.)

The Actions installation will be seen by all campaign managers using your account and will be effective upon logging out and logging back in.

Actions are the newest advocacy framework to improve and replace the existing Campaign and Petition tools. They'll enhance your online advocacy with:

  • Thank-and-spank with multiple message entries per action
  • Better and faster reports
  • Better webform parsing for multistage and authenticated Congressional webforms
  • Targeting improvements

All Salsa accounts will automatically be upgraded with this package on Jan. 1, 2010 - but you can get a head start by using it today! Rest assured: all of your existing campaign data and reports will continue to be available after Jan. 1 (and forever), and the legacy campaign API will continue to function until March 1, 2010.

Questions? Join a webinar for Actions 2.0 on Nov. 20, or contact support@wiredforchange.com or support@democracyinaction.org.

Salsa Weekly Highlight: Email delivery audit

by Leslie Hall

(From this week's Weekly Highlight email. Click here to sign up to receive it in your inbox every Wednesday!)

All of us on the Salsa team are working to build new tools and improve old ones. There is so much going on!

As you know, we don't put out quarterly software releases. System enhancements are happening all the time and we want you to know about them as they're happening. To improve our communications around this, we decided to send out a weekly update highlighting the most exciting Salsa change (e.g., a new feature, an important upgrade or fix) of the week. Welcome to the 'Weekly Salsa Highlight'!

Why only a highlight?

Because if you're like me, you already have too many emails in your inbox. I want to keep this weekly email short and sweet. I'll highlight the coolest thing we're doing each week and if you want to read more you can check out Salsa Commons for additional news and updates. So, without further delay, this week's highlight:

Email Deliverability

We're constantly working to help more of your email hit recipients' inboxes, and we've recently made a few upgrades to help Salsa emails perform even better.

  • We've moved mail servers to a new, state-of-the-art data center
  • We've more than doubled our pool of email IP addresses to balance and optimize delivery
  • We've contracted an outside expert to conduct an email deliverability audit and recommend further improvements

So, email with confidence! We'll be sure to keep you updated as the audit progresses.
