Textbook thank-and-spank action on the health care bill

by Jason Z.

Health Care for America Now rode the news cycle with this Salsa action page on this weekend's House health care vote.

It's a textbook thank-and-spank page, one of the great new Actions 2.0 upgrades along with the likes of.

  • Better and faster reports
  • Better webform parsing for multistage and authenticated Congressional webforms
  • Targeting improvements

The entry page of the action solicits the writer's zip code:

... and based on the result (with additional address information if required to differentiate congressional districts) serves up a message and a suggested letter content customized for the member of Congress. In this case, it's either approving or disapproving of the representative's vote on health care reform.

According to Jason Rosenbaum, Deputy Director of Online Campaigns for HCAN, this action was built at the end of last week with the pending vote in mind, and advertised on HCAN's site, its blog, and its email list on Sunday.

As of Monday, Nov. 9, the HCAN home page asks visitors to take this action with an interstitial banner.

It's been similarly circulated by coalition partners like the SEIU and the AFL-CIO, with over 25,000 messages sent as of this afternoon.

"There'll probably be similar things" for the coming Senate and conference votes, Rosenbaum said. "The tool has been successful for us so far, so that's great."

Campaign managers and others subscribed to our "Regular Updates" emails heard about this tool last week. If you're a Salsa user, be sure to install the new Actions upgrade now. There'll also be a webinar for Actions 2.0 on Nov. 20.
